Signature Braids
During a family trip to Mexico Justin had his hair braided on the beach which would inspire him to get them professionally since the initial job was poorly done.
Since then we have seen him continue to do protective styles which has served him well both aesthetically and practically.
African American athletes tend to have their hair braided for various reasons such as hair being less time consuming to manage and minimal breakage due to reduced manipulation.
Lamar Jackson Hair is a perfect example of this, an athlete with afro textured hair placing locks in protective styles for these same benefits.
High-Top Afro
At the time of Justin’s draft we saw the rookie Athlete sporting his High Top Afro which is how he was introduced to the masses.
The images show the variations of his high-top during his 1st year which include
- Line Pattern on the side
- Curls on Top
- Front fade line up
To achieve subtle or heavy curls on an afro mohawk or high top follow the basic steps below.
- Slightly dampen hair with a spritz
- You may also apply some of your styling product to the sponge.
- Use sponge and go in a circular motion across your head and style to your liking.
You have the option to style hair lightly or heavily, depending on your preference.
Mohawk
Prior to his current signature braids we regularly saw Justin Fields Hair rotate between a high top and mohawk, and whilst the difference was subtle it changed his appearance.
The beauty of the Afro Mohawk is the ability to style hair in a variety of ways. Curls on top, shaved in patterns with wide or short sides.
Depending on the variation this is sometimes called the South of France haircut which was one of the go to Usher haircut styles that made its way to other musicians and athletes.
Hair Type
Justin’s hair type falls under category 4, range is 4b – 4c which is afro textured hair that is the tightest curl pattern out of all hair types.
Since those with 4B/4C hair experience dryness and breakage more than any other hair types this leads to having styles such as braids to reduce manipulation and breakage.
